WATERFALLS AND HAMAKUA COAST SHORE
EXCURSION
$65 Per Person (Minimum of 8 People Required)
Banyan Drive, which receives its name from the old banyan trees that
shade it, is the beginning of your tour. This road curves along the
waterfront and you will pass by these trees, many of which were planted
by famous visitors to the city such as Babe Ruth, Cecil B. DeMille, and
Amelia Earhard. A stop at the Liliuokalani Gardens, so named for Queen
Kikiuokalani, will prove to be a delicous introduction to Japanese
gardens. This is a 30-acre park filled with bonsai, carp ponds, pagodas,
and a moon-gate bridge. Here you can enjoy an awesome view of Mauna Kea,
one of the world’s tallest mountains, and a gorgeous view of the Hamakua
Coast.
The contrast between the gardens and your next visit, an intro to Hilo
the city, is apparent. Your guide will give you the historic background
of Hilo and embellish with tales that locals share. This and then on to
an incredible meeting with Rainbow Falls, the 80-foot waterfall behind
which hides a secret cave. Just above Rainbow Falls you can explore
under the huge canopy of a beautiful banyan tree that always leaves her
guests in awe, and a lagoon on the river to the falls that has become a
very popular attraction.
We then proceed up the Hamakua Coast where you will experience the lush
green beauty that Hawaii is famed for. We visit a popular surf hotspot
where you can witness some of our islands best surfers at play, historic
bridges and waterfalls. We travel through the famous 4-mile scenic route
where you will be amazed at the variety of Hawaii's exotic plants and
flowers. We then visit the beautiful 442 foot waterfall Akaka Falls,'
and then back to Hilo to close the day with a visit to our friends of
the ocean, the Sea turtles.
