WAIMEA
CANYON...A PRIVATE TOUR
$639 For Up to 5 People
The valley of Wiamea Canyon is known for its
reddish lava beds and reminds many of the Grand Canyon.A massive
earthquake sent all the streams of lava flowing into a single river that
ultimately carved this picturesque canyon. On this tour you will see the
silver thread of the Waimea River that travels through the gorge at a
trickle or a torrent, depending on the season.
Weather permitting, you will stop at three separate viewing points to be
able to take in this spectacle. You will drive to the Wiamea Canyon
Lookout, a wonderful vantage point for photos on Waimea Canyon Road. The
colorful rock formations will define the width and breadth of this huge
hole in the earth. The second stop will be at the Kalalau Valley
Lookout, where you can see where the canyon drops 4,000 feet to the
ocean into a valley surrounded by ragged cliffs decorated with
waterfalls. The third lookout is the Hanapepe Valley Lookout which
offers a choice view of the river valley hemmed in by red cliffs.
You will see the Old Russian Fort built in 1815 by a Russian fur company
in hopes of seizing Kauai for the Czar. Also see Captain Cook's Landing
at the mouth of the Waimea River where Captian James Cook first set foot
in Hawaii in January of 1778.
